Ingredients

Pastry
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
Filling
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
Frosting
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
How to Make It
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. To prepare the pastry, combine the flour, butter, and 1 tablespoon water in a bowl, cutting in with two knives to form a dough similar to a piecrust. Spread in a 13 × 9- inch baking pan.
  3. To prepare the filling, combine 1 cup water and the butter in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat. Add the flour. Stir until smooth. Stir in the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the almond extract. Pour over the crust. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes.
  4. To prepare the frosting, combine the confectioners’ sugar, butter, and almond extract. Add the milk, a little at a time, until the frosting reaches a spreading consistency. Spread over the baked puff.
