Self-rising flour gives you a leg up when preparing these easy, four-ingredient biscuits.

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup shortening
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup buttermilk
How to Make It
  1. Preheat oven to 450°. Cut shortening into flour with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Add milks, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 3 or 4 times. Pat or roll dough to ¾-inch thickness; cut dough with a 2½-inch round cutter, and place dough rounds ½ inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 450° for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
